Dawg On

The east winds have been playing a bit of hell on me lately, but last Friday it slicked off nice.  Jim and I started with the reds and after a few shots we decided to go look for cobia.(bad call)  After idling around for what seems like days sometimes we found nothing!  Back to the standby.  We hit the flats again and after a couple of nice shots Jim nailed this fish.  The bummer about the gig was just as soon as the tide was getting good Jim’s fishing partner had to bail and get home.  Charters are available to the land of the lost area, those who are willing to put in a bit of time will find user friendly fish and not many boats at all. Sat before last we saw 2 boats all day!  The rout bite from what I here is non existent.  Biggest catch I’ve heard of was 6 fish thus far.  DNR has started a voluntary program ROE  Release over eighteen inches.  These large female are the key to getting the trout’s number back up fast.  Last fish kill we had it took 5 years to get the trout’s numbers back up.  This may not bode well for reds, with many baitchunkers needing meet for their manly hood it will only put more pressure on them.

I have been fishing the Georgia and South Carolina Coast for 30 years and guiding full time for 20 plus years. What you will get from me is a quality fishing trip, whether with fly rod or spinning tackle that is always a long time on the water for the rate. My half days run more like 5-6 hours and full days are over 8 hours. 4 hours on a half day just isn't long enough to fish. What you will not get from me is a quick trip to spots 5 minutes away that are fished heavily so can make it back to the dock in time for my next trip. I have guided through out the southeast as well as Alaska and the Bahamas. I have been instrumental in developing shallow water sight casting in Georgia and South Carolina and have been the first to introduce Tarpon fishing on fly rod to South Carolina and Georgia!!
