Big’uns

Will Abbot and I headed down south a couple of weeks ago And came across a few schools of Monster reds cruising along a particular beach. These fish were cruising in about 2 feet of water, rolling flashing and popping baits just like the smaller guys we catch.

Seems as though I haven’t spent the night at home in a month, but duty calls and I have to go fishing, wherever it may be.(Stop the whinning right)Started off fishing with long time customer Tommy Webster. What we thought may be a tough day turned out to be awesome. The weather was perfect but it didin’t look as though the tide was gonna fill in enough. What little water we had began to flood and we began to hear reds playing in the pools ahead. If it wasn’t for Hell’s Bay boats that all we would have done is listen. With the water being to muddy to wade we were able to pole in and get the shots we wanted. The next day it was off to St. Simons for the Redbone tourn. Three days of great weather and decent fishing. (yours truly won the fly fishing division).. After poling on a particular flat we noticed some wakes outside in the channel. What do ya know large schools of large Jacks everywhere!! We took some time off the flats and pulled the big rod out and the largest popper I had, and the fights had began. CAl Collier Dave Collier and Cal’s son Will began a game of tug of war with these beasts. After 3 fish they were cooked on the jacks and ready for something a bit smaller to bully around. Stay tuned to ESPN in the spring and they should have some great action with the jacks and reds from my boat during the tournament. After St. Simons it was onward to HiltonHead and meet up with the mother ship and begin harrasing some reds in Carolina. The fishing had it’s good moements and it’s tough moments but all in all a good trip. Thanks Go out to Billy Kehoe Joe Kehoe and Bill Johnson for a great couple of days.
