Well it’s almost 2016 and it has still failed to feel like winter.  The past week we have had temps in the 80’s.  I hate to say it, but I think I’m ready for a little cooler weather, but not cold.  We have been catching some reds in the grass and low tide as well.  That doesn’t mean it’s been on fire.  The fish have been available in short windows of the tide.  When they have been available there have been some huge schools to play with.  Chris Webbers Runaway shrimp pattern has been my go to fly all fall and winter.  Low and High water the fly has been doing it’s job !

It’s incredible what happens after the winds lay down after a couple of weeks N.E. at 20 plus.  Fish are happy and popping baits and anglers are happy busting lips !  It’s nothing short of amazing when the winds fall off and the fish have a happy time to eat, and this is what has happened this week at Pickney Island.  Over the past week I have seen the fish at Pickney Island go from unhappy to very happy !! just because the winds have fallen.  Let’s hope the weather holds this pattern for the remainder of the winter.  Wishful thinking.  I’m sure at some point winter will rear it’s ugly head, but till then have fun with the fish !!!
