Fishing Savannah, Hilton Head, and Beaufort

The weather has finally stabilized and so have the fish.  Reds are doing there thing on the high water, cobia and tripletail have moved in and can be found inshore.  We missed a nice 25lbs cobia today on the fly.  My guy lifted the fly out of the water right when the cobia was charging it.  Ouch !  I need to get back out.   Here’s Paul Rankin with one of a couple nice reds taken on fly the other day,  we lost a bigun around 15lbs that was tailing so nice and ate. Ouch!

The tailing tides have continued to provide plenty of fun in the grass.  The morning high tides seem to have been a little funky, with cool temps starting out it, the reds just didn’t want to show their tails.  The evening tides on the other hand were a whole different ball game !  After hearing how much fun red fishing is from  his cousin Dave Wilson was in town and decided to give it a try. What fun we had !  We used spinning rods with a small plastic shrimp and the fish were down,  with a pesky wind we managed 3 eats with one fish coming to the boat, one lost along side and the other blew up on the soft plastic and missed it.  Cobia are in the Broad , yesterday one was caught on fly.  Hopefully the warmer weather and maybe some lighter winds will provide more action with the cobia.  Just be ready for some looking time when cobia fishing the Broad.  It seems I see one as soon as I start, or I’m on the long term look and once my eyes get tired of looking, one pops up.  There are those days though when the fish seem to around and up everywhere.
