John Nelson with a nice one at first light

A few weeks ago Paul Rankin and I were looking for some fish that havn’tbeen beat down.  We just so happen to come across the Bay of Pigs!  These fish are big and shallow.  Seems as though the school is all 20 lbs plus fish and they cruise with their backs out.  Damn it man!  The past week has been as good of red fishing in the shallows as I have seen with some big fish in real shallow water.  The winds have been light, the bugs a pain in the ass, but the fish,

oh the fish!

Dang, after a great fall and winter weather wise Feb. has come in and let us have it.  Many windy days and rainy days have been making the desire to go fishing tough. When the sun has peeked through the fishing has been ok,  Can’t say great but we have been busting some fish. The good news here is the trout.  We have been catching some nice fish on a variety of artificial’s.  Water temps are bumping up and soon we should see something like cobia and triple tail show up.   After a long winter I am ready to toss some flies at something besides a red fish.  I was checking some of the other fly fishing guides web pages and one of them actually said the winter time fly fishing is no good.  What a joke, tell some of the folks that have had 20 fish days on the fly with me this winter that. This is what you get through google advertised guides.  One must truly do some research before hiring a guide for bait or fly fishing. Anyone can put their site up on google advertising and not have even guided more than a year, and are at the top of web pages.  Do your research or you could be stuck in some bait chunkers bay boat telling you the tide isn’t right for fly fishing.
